Rivaroxaban is a pure (S)-enantiomer. It is an odorless, non-hygroscopic, white to yellowish powder. Rivaroxaban is only slightly soluble in organic solvents (e.g., aceto ne, polyethylene glycol 400) and is practically insoluble in water and aqueous media.
Rivaroxaban, a FXa inhibitor, is the active ingredient in XARELTO Tablets. XARELTO a kind of orally anticoagulant drug which is used for the prevention of blood clots. Rivaroxaban takes effect through competitively inhibiting free and clot bound factor Xa, which is needed to activate prothrombin (factor II) to thrombin (factor IIa). The later is a serine protease that is required to activate fibrinogen to fibrin, which is the loose meshwork that completes the clotting process.
Function
1.Rivaroxaban can be used to prevent strokes in those with atrial fibrillation due to causes other than heart valvedisease, and at least one additional risk factor for stroke (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age, diabetes, and prior stroke)
2.Rivaroxaban can also be used to prevent the formation of blood clots in the veins (deep venous thrombosis) in adults who have had an operation to replace a hip or knee and for treatment and prevention of acute deep venous thrombosis in adults. It can not be used for prevention of venous thrombosis in hospitalized medically ill patients.
3.Rivaroxaban is not indicated for prosthetic heart valves or for mitral stenosis.
